Compliant accounts, delivered with clarity
For most charities, the year-end accounts process is the single most important financial event of the year. Done well, it demonstrates accountability to your trustees, funders and the public. We manage the entire process for you, from gathering your records through to assisting with submission to the Charity Commission and, where applicable, Companies House.
SORP-compliant accruals accounts
Unincorporated charities and CIOs above the receipts and payments threshold, and all charitable companies, are required to prepare accruals accounts in accordance with the Charities SORP. We prepare these to the highest standard, including full fund accounting across restricted, unrestricted, designated and endowment funds.
- Statement of financial activities (SOFA)
- Balance sheet and notes to the accounts
- Fund accounting: restricted, unrestricted and endowment funds
- Trustees' annual report (guidance and support)
- Submission to the Charity Commission and Companies House
Receipts and payments accounts
Receipts and payments accounts are a simpler format available to unincorporated charities and CIOs with gross income below the threshold. Charitable companies cannot use this format and must prepare accruals accounts. The format is less burdensome, but it still needs to be done properly. We prepare these clearly and accurately, ensuring your statement of assets and liabilities is complete and your filing is on time.
- Receipts and payments account
- Statement of assets and liabilities
- Trustees' annual report (guidance and support)
- Assistance with submission to the Charity Commission
Threshold changes from 30 September 2026
The most significant update to charity financial thresholds in over a decade takes effect for years ending on or after 30 September 2026. The audit income threshold rises from £1m to £1.5m, and the audit gross assets threshold from £3.26m (with income over £250,000) to £5m (with income over £500,000). The independent examination threshold rises from £25,000 to £40,000, and the receipts and payments threshold from £250,000 to £500,000. We are fully up to date with these changes and will guide you through what they mean for you.
Frequently asked questions
What is the deadline for filing charity accounts?
Charities registered with the Charity Commission must file their annual accounts and trustees' annual report within 10 months of their financial year end. Charitable companies must also file at Companies House, generally within nine months. We manage these deadlines for you.
What is the difference between accruals and receipts and payments accounts?
Receipts and payments accounts summarise the money that actually came in and went out, and are available to smaller unincorporated charities and CIOs. Accruals accounts, prepared under the Charities SORP, also reflect amounts owed and owing, and are required for charitable companies and larger charities.
Do you prepare the trustees' annual report as well?
Yes. We guide you through the trustees' annual report that accompanies the accounts, helping you meet the Charity Commission's content requirements and tell your charity's story clearly.
